Harlequin Lace was first set up by Sue and Sarah Clothier as an evening class to teach bobbin lacemaking in the 1980's. The class ran until the mid 90's when Harlequin Lace started to branch out into lace fairs selling hay filled lace making pillows, bobbin cases and original design patterns.

During the 2000's Sue Clothier gained a City and Guilds in Lacemaking and continued teaching lacemaking and designing lace patterns. Harlequin developed a technique for turning lace pillows from high density foam, and so started selling light weight pillows instead of hay filled pillows. These proved so popular that as the availabilty of polestyrene pillows declined, other suppliers requested we make their pillows. We now have a range of pillows to suit any lacemaking need and are able to make bespoke pillows to order if we don't have in stock what you need.

Unfortunately Sue died suddenly in 2013, and Harlequin Lace passed into the hands of Sarah Clothier and her partner Ben Duffy, who had no idea what he had let himself in for! Sarah and Ben got married in 2019 and Sarah is very proud to have 'Lacemaker' as her profession on their marriage certificate.

Sarah and Ben have continued to advocate lace making and have developed many unique items, including bobbin lace and tatting starter kits which has been very popular - and *~*piff paff poof*~* new lace makers are created.

In 2020, Sarah and Ben purchased the surplace stock from Winslow Bobbins when they retired after 43 years. This means Harlequin Lace were able to offer there own range of lacemaking bobbins with exciting new designs using laser engraving.

Later in the year they added a selection of lacemaking threads to the growing range of products.

Harlequin have developed a reputation for high quality lacemaking pillows and sundries, and we pride ourselves on selling products that are a little bit different to other suppliers, in fact most of what we sell is exclusive to Harlequin Lace and can't be found anywhere else. We continue to add to our range with new patterns and kits, and are developing a range of gifts for lacemakers.

We are regulars at Lace making Suppliers Fairs throughout the UK and are happy to post worldwide.

Thanks for taking the time to learn about us - happy lacemaking!!
